1368: Reference to Jews as a group disappeared

 
 

The start of the Great Ming Dynasty in 1368 marked a turning point in the documentation and categorisation of Jews and other foreigners in official Chinese records. All references in Chinese texts to Jews as a specific ethnic or religious group in China ceased until the early 20th century; however, the individual achievements of specific Kaifeng Jewish individuals were chronicled in the Gazetteers and official histories of the Ming.
