Jewish traveller Eldad ha-Dani (c.851–c.900), also known as Eldad of the Lost Tribe of Dan (埃尔达德部), wrote about his experiences in China after he returned home to southern Arabia.

 
 

Captured by cannibals in the western region of China

 

Eldad ha-Dani described that he and a companion of his were captured by a band of cannibals in China's western region.

His comrade was murdered and eaten by the cannibals.

 
 

Saved by a Jewish merchant from Tribe of Issachar

 

Ha-Dani was “was brought to Qin (China) where a Jewish merchant of the Tribe of Issachar (以撒萨尔部) purchased (him) for 32 golden coins and returned with (him) to his country, beyond the land of Medes and Persians.”
