1678: Zhao Clan Memorial Archway (赵氏牌坊)

Inside the Main Gate on the east

Immediately over the eastern entrance on the outside of the synagogue — which faced a street called the Sinew Plucking Lane (挑筋胡同) — hung a wooden plaque. Painted on it were the words Temple of Purity and Truth (清真寺). Just inside the entrance stood a tripartite memorial arch, made of upright pillars, horizontal beams and roofed over with yellow glazed tiles. This was the Zhao Clan Memorial Archway.

Erected in honour of the Zhao Clan

Zhao Ying-cheng (赵映乘) was honoured on the right-hand panel, as he held the Imperial Position of First Degree of Fifth Rank (奉政大夫), a Doctorate Degree, and served as the Assistant Commander of the Zhangnan Route (漳南道) Army and the Assistant Grand Judge in Fujian Province.

Zhao Ying-dou (赵映斗) was honoured on the left-hand panel, as he held the Imperial Position of First Degree of Seventh Rank (文林郎), an Honourary Doctorate Degree (恩进士), and served as District Magistrate of Kunming County and Yiliang County (宜良县) in Yunnan Province.
